Graat Secures Third Overall

Tijmen Graat, a promising rider from Team Visma | Lease a Bike Development, emerged third in the overall rankings of the Circuit des Ardennes. Despite the tough competition and rigorous stages, Graat's consistency and determination paid off, earning him a coveted spot on the podium.

Team Effort Leads to Best Team Award

The accolades did not stop with individual success, as the entire team was honored with the prestigious best team award. This recognition was a testament to the collective effort and synergy among the team members, highlighting their dominance in the event.

However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for the team. Matthew Brennan, one of the team's key riders, was unable to start the final stage due to fitness concerns. This setback underscored the physical demands of the Circuit des Ardennes and the importance of each team member's contribution.

Strategic Focus on Defending Graat's Position

With the goal firmly set on defending Graat's position in the overall standings, teammates Jed Smithson, Morten Nørtoft, and Tom Schellekens put forth a commendable effort. Their support was instrumental in Graat finishing eighth in the final stage, which solidified his third-place finish overall. Graat expressed satisfaction with his performance, acknowledging the superior strength of two competitors who managed to outpace him.

The Circuit des Ardennes: A Challenging Choice

The selection of the Circuit des Ardennes was strategic, aimed at challenging Graat and providing him with an opportunity to pursue his personal ambitions. "We chose this race to challenge me. Here I learn to position, ride better corners, and climb better. Besides, I really liked going for my own chance," Graat explained.

Team's Strength Shines in Final Stage

The final stage was a testament to the team's strength, particularly highlighting Tom Schellekens' remarkable effort. Not only did Schellekens counter several attacks, but he also secured a fourth-place finish in the stage. His performance was crucial in ensuring the team's victory in the team classification, further emphasizing the cohesive and determined spirit of Team Visma | Lease a Bike Development.

Praise from the Team Director

Sierk-Jan de Haan, the team's director, praised the team's overall performance. "The goal was to finish as good as possible in every stage, and that worked out well. The boys did a great race," he remarked. De Haan's strategic planning and leadership played a pivotal role in navigating the challenges of the Circuit des Ardennes.

"Today we did everything we could to secure Tijmen's third place. We knew it was going to be difficult because Tijmen specializes more in longer climbs. This was a course where you had to accelerate a lot. The guys kept a constant eye on Tijmen so he was well positioned going into the final circuit," De Haan elaborated on the team's tactics during the final stage.

He further added, "Tom played a nice role in the final by not only countering several attacks but also finishing fourth. As a team, we were very strong and it's fantastic that it was rewarded with the team classification."

Graat's Personal Reflections and Future Aspirations

"I can be satisfied with this. Of course, you hope for more and do everything you can to move up another place, but unfortunately, this was it. Two men were simply stronger," Graat candidly reflected on his performance. Despite the acknowledgment of his competitors' strengths, Graat's ambition remains undeterred, with sights set on further improving his skills, particularly on longer climbs.

The Circuit des Ardennes was more than a race for Graat and Team Visma | Lease a Bike Development; it was a platform for growth, teamwork, and demonstrating rigorous preparation's effectiveness.
