NFL 53-Man Roster Cut Deadline: Teams Finalize Rosters for the Season

The NFL 53-man roster cut deadline has come and gone, requiring teams to trim their rosters from 90 players down to 53 by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. As always, this annual exercise has resulted in both predictable and surprising moves across the league. Many players now find themselves seeking new opportunities, while teams finalize their lineups for the upcoming season.

High-Profile Cuts

Among the most notable cuts were wide receivers and tight ends from the Baltimore Ravens, including Sean Ryan, Russell Gage, and Anthony Miller. Joining them were Mike Rigerman, Riley Sharp, Qadir Ismail, and Scotty Washington. The Ravens’ offensive line also saw significant changes with the release of Tashawn Manning and Darrell Simpson. Additionally, defensive lineman Tramel Walthour, punter Jack Browning, quarterback Emory Jones, and running back Chris Collier were also let go.

Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers Broadcast Changes

The Denver Broncos made headlines by cutting linebackers Jonas Griffith and Jaylon Allen, alongside wide receiver Jalen Virgil. Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers’ decisions included parting ways with offensive lineman Royce Newman and offensive tackle Caleb Jones. The Packers also released quarterbacks Michael Pratt and Sean Clifford, in addition to kicker Anders Carlson and wide receivers Jalen Wayne and Samori Toure. Defensive lineman Kenneth Odumegwu was another casualty of the roster cull.

Texans and Raiders Overhaul Secondary and Offense

The Houston Texans focused heavily on revamping their secondary by cutting cornerbacks Mike Ford, Lonnie Johnson Jr., and C.J. Henderson. The offensive lineup wasn’t spared either, with wide receivers Noah Brown and Quintez Cephus among those released. Quarterback Tim Boyle, safety Desmond King, and wide receiver Jaden Janke also did not make the final cut.

The Las Vegas Raiders saw significant changes too, releasing quarterbacks Carter Bradley and Nathan Peterman. Wide receiver Jeff Foreman and defensive back Wood Governor also found themselves on the wrong side of the cut line.

Saints and Jets Shape Final Rosters

The New Orleans Saints didn't hold back, cutting defensive end Niko Lalos and wide receivers Samson Nacua and Equanimeous St. Brown, as well as linebacker Khaleke Hudson. Punter Lou Hedley, safeties Roderic Teamer, Lawrence Johnson, Ugo Amadi, and Johnathan Abram were also relieved of their duties. On the offensive line, Josiah Ezirim, Tremayne Anchrum, Shane Lemieux, center Sincere Haynesworth, and defensive end Trajan Jeffcoat were released.

The New York Jets trimmed their roster by releasing defensive back Tre Swilling, running back Xavian Valladay, and tight end Neal Johnson.

Eagles and Seahawks Mould their Squads

The Philadelphia Eagles cut ties with wide receiver Parris Campbell and quarterback Will Grier, while tight ends E.J. Jenkins and C.J. Uzomah, defensive back Parry Nickerson, and guard Max Scharping also did not make the final 53-man roster.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks made substantial adjustments to their lineup, particularly amongst tight ends and wide receivers. Tyler Mabry and Michael Ezeike at tight end, and D'Wayne Eskridge and Easop Winston at wide receiver are no longer part of the roster. Defensive ends DeVere Levelston and Jamie Sheriff were released, in addition to defensive tackle Mario Kendricks, linebackers Easton Gibbs, Jon Rhattigan, and Devin Richardson, safety Ty Okada, running back George Holani, and defensive back Willie Roberts.

Buccaneers and Commanders Make Moves

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut wide receiver Sterling Shepard, defensive lineman Eric Banks, and linebacker Randy Gregory.

The Washington Commanders were particularly busy, cutting defensive ends Andre Jones and KJ Henry, wide receivers Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and Brycen Tremayne. Wide receivers Martavis Bryant, Mitch Tinsley, and Davion Davis, along with running backs Chris Rodriguez and Michael Wiley were released. The Commanders also revised their defensive backfield by cutting cornerbacks Chigozie Anusiem, A.J. Woods, Nick Whiteside II, Tariq Castro-Fields, and James Pierre. Guard Julian Good-Jones, center J.C. Hassenauer, linebacker Bo Bauer, defensive back Ben Nikkel, and kicker Riley Patterson also found themselves off the roster.

As teams finalized their initial 53-man rosters after the roster cut deadline, we see a league that is constantly in flux, poised for another fiercely competitive season. With these cuts, each of these organizations is positioning itself to field the best possible team when the NFL kicks off.
